Accreditation for Bariatric and Metabolic Institute at Elkhart General Hospital

The Bariatric and Metabolic Institute at Elkhart General Hospital has been named a Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accredited Center. This honor demonstrates to the public and the insurance industry that EGH practices the highest standard of bariatric patient care.

This designation, which is based on patient volume and safety measures, means that the EGH program has met or exceeded stringent guidelines established by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (ASMBS) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

A bariatric surgical center achieves accreditation following a rigorous review process during which it demonstrates that it can maintain certain physical resources, human resources, and standards of practice. All accredited centers report their outcomes to the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) database, which tracks their surgical cases, outcomes and readmissions.
