Frequently Asked Questions

What is Beacon Virtual Urgent Care?

Beacon Virtual Urgent Care is a private, secure, fast and easy way to see a doctor, 24/7/365. You and your family can have a video visit for minor health care issues — from your home, office or anywhere! You’ll be able to use your smartphone, tablet or computer for the visits.

What are some reasons to use Beacon Virtual Urgent Care?

  • You should probably see a doctor, but can’t fit it into your schedule.
  • Your doctor’s office is closed.
  • You feel too sick to drive.
  • You have children at home and don’t want to bring them with you.
  • It’s difficult for you to get to a doctor’s appointment.
  • You’re on business travel and stuck in a hotel room.

What kinds of conditions can be treated with Beacon Virtual Urgent Care?

Common minor health issues that the doctors can treat include: Colds, fever, rash, stomach flu, sinus infection, pink eye and headaches, for example.

Beacon Virtual Urgent Care is not for emergency medical problems; call 911 or go to your closest emergency room.

Who are the doctors performing the video visits through Beacon Virtual Urgent Care?

Beacon Health System has extended our provider and urgent care network by partnering with the Online Care Group, the nation’s first and largest primary care group devoted to telehealth. The physicians are U.S. board-certified doctors with an average of 15 years of experience and are licensed to practice medicine in Indiana and Michigan (and most other states). You’ll be able to read each doctor’s profile to learn about his or her education and experience before beginning a virtual visit. All of our providers are certified and credentialed according to National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) standards.

No camera for a video visit? No problem.

You’ll also be able to reach a Beacon Virtual Urgent Care doctor by phone.

What about prescriptions?

If your diagnosis warrants a prescription, your Beacon Virtual Urgent Care doctor will send it to a Beacon Pharmacy or your pharmacy of choice. Certain medications, including controlled substances (for example narcotics, ADHD medications and strong pain medicines), cannot be prescribed via a telehealth visit.

How much will an urgent care video visit with a doctor cost?

Some insurance companies cover telehealth sessions like a regular office visit. If your insurance company doesn’t currently cover telehealth, you can still use the service.

How long does it take?

Once you’ve logged in and registered, it takes just a few minutes before you begin your video visit with a doctor. A typical visit lasts about 10 minutes.
