Jessica DuBois graduated from Indiana University Bloomington with a degree in Exercise Science.  At IU, she taught various group exercise formats including barre, cardio hip hop, kickboxing, and total body strength and conditioning. Along with group exercise, she also gained experience working with cardiac rehab programs and a GOAL program that worked with families and children combatting obesity and unhealthy lifestyle habits. Outside of Beacon Health & Fitness, you can find Jessica choreographing musicals and teaching dance classes at Premier Arts Theater in Downtown Elkhart. Jessica has a passion for all aspects of health and wellness and working with others in their journey towards better health.

Sarah has a passion for populations that suffer from different conditions and ailments which require special training. She loves our Best Medicine programs and is quoted as saying “that is what I hang my heart on.” Sarah has been in the health and fitness field for 13 years and pursued her Master’s 3 years ago, simply because she loves what she does.

“After two rotator cuff surgeries and an Osteoporosis diagnosis, I was prescribed a regular exercise program. I decided 10 years ago to have Sarah Strefling at Beacon be my personal trainer. She makes sure I do the PT exercises that are needed for my shoulder and back issues and correct weight-bearing exercises for my Osteoporosis. Emily has experience training a wide variety of clients with different conditions, abilities and goals. When working with clients she encourages them to try new things and to get out of their comfort zone – she feels we often times underestimate what we are capable of. Emily enjoys seeing her clients achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.

My children gave me a 3 month session with Emily and the results were so significant that I am now going on my second year with her. Jake is passionate about working with people who have chronic diseases, orthopedic limitations and those looking to change their body composition. He also enjoys working with strength athletes and those looking for advanced fitness programming. His philosophy and exercise programming is based on a deep scientific understanding of the human body, scientific research in the field and writings from some of the most successful fitness professionals in the country. He strives to provide safe, effective workouts that are designed specifically for the goals and ability level of each individual. Jake currently competes in powerlifting competitions and has also competed in triathlons in the past. Outside of personal training, Jake leads three Best Medicine classes, Phase IV Cardiac Rehab, Climb (Parkinson’s fitness), and Steps Ahead (Peripheral Artery Disease fitness.) He also specializes in designing and performing fitness assessments for a wide range of ability levels. He believes fitness is a lifelong journey that anyone can enjoy!

“Personal training through Beacon has been a very fulfilling experience, as my specific needs were assessed and a training regimen was developed with sport-specific factors in mind. Jake has done an amazing job discussing biomechanics, nutrition, physical activity to do in between sessions, as well as pushing me in ways I could not have done alone. Further, my understanding of strength training techniques is vastly improved and I quickly realized how my incorrect form would have led to potential issues if unaddressed. Milt has the second most basketball sectional championships, 5, in South Bend history. 4 Coach of the Year Awards. His athletes have earned millions of dollars in scholarships with over 80% graduating college. He coached one Mister Basketball in Illinois and three players that were Senior or Junior Indiana All Stars. He has always coached the best conditioned team. His teams have led or been top 10 in scoring and victory margin. In his last 7 years coaching high school basketball he had 3-20 win seasons, 22-4, 22-3, and 21-5, with two of those teams ranked in the top 10 in the state of Indiana, and making it to the Elite 8.

Milt stresses that everyone should reach their potential and 99% of that starts with good health. If you want to live a long and happy life start with taking of your physical health, which in turn will improve your mental health and well-being.

Sarah is tremendously passionate about working with people who have limitations to exercise due to disabilities or chronic conditions. She has experience working with individuals with Down syndrome, Autism, Parkinson’s, cardiovascular disease, cerebral palsy, and many other conditions. She takes great pride in our Best Medicine classes because she loves being able to provide an inclusive environment for individuals to reach their goals. Sarah orients her exercise programming around improving the ability to perform activities of daily living and the overall quality of life.

“My young adult daughter, Katie, has Down Syndrome and, like many of us, puts exercise at the bottom of her priority list.  I am determined to help her live a healthy life, but her activity level decreased as she aged out of the school system. Fortunately, I received a flyer with information about an exercise class at Beacon designed specifically for people with Down Syndrome. We decided to give it a try, and it has been a real motivator for her. Sarah Mark, the trainer, has a wonderful rapport with the class and she is teaching the proper techniques for a wide variety of exercises. Dave Wilson is a personal trainer and fitness specialist. He earned a personal training certification through the American College of Sports Medicine and an Exercise Science degree from Manchester University. Dave is a national qualifier for United States Strongest Man and former College Football Lineman. Dave has years of experience working with people that have back pain and joint injuries. Dave specializes in Powerlifting, Strongman, Olympic lifting, and Bodybuilding training. Dave believes that “Everyone has the right to feel strong in everything they do whether, its walking up a flight of stairs or lifting a car.”
