Swim Lesson Safety Precautions

We are excited to be returning to the pool! Elkhart Health & Aquatics re-opened our doors to our adult fitness members with some significant restrictions, and have successfully brought back programs and services piece by piece.

Our medical leadership at Beacon Health System has given us clearance to begin getting some kids back in the pool for lessons in the same manner, one step at a time.  If you are in any way uncomfortable or just don’t feel like you’re ready to come back to the pool yet, that’s okay. We want you to feel comfortable, safe, and ready.  Our goal is water safety for all of the kids in our community, and want to get back to work on that mission.  We have a guide online laying out all of the steps we have been taking on as a facility and changes that you will see when you return: Re-Opening Guide.

Starting Monday, July 6th, we will start by doing 2-week sessions, with swimmers coming Monday thru Thursday for 8 classes over an 11-day span.

In order for us to maintain distancing, will have some restrictions when returning to the pool, listed below:

  • We are limiting the number of classes at a time so that no more than 2 classes start at a given time in each pool, classes will “stagger start” a minimum of 15 minute intervals, so that we are limiting the number of students on deck.
  • Our instructors will be wearing face shields during lessons for all “hands on” lessons, only removing them when classes are in the deep end (working on diving, etc)
  •  Classes will be spread out throughout the pools, starting at opposite ends when possible.
    • Kickboards, taped lines and other props will be used for “wait spacing” while swimmers are on the wall waiting their turn to maintain distancing
  • Swimmers are limited to one “parent/caregiver” per student in the facility
    • Parent chairs are spaced minimum 6’ apart on deck
    • Please arrive no more than 10 minutes early for class.
  • Swimmers arrive and depart in swimsuits, family/24 hour bathrooms available for use for using the restroom as needed.
  • Additional information with regards to entering the building, check in locations, etc will be emailed out prior to the start of the first day.

We will be doing 3 sets of lessons in this format this summer (swimmers attend four times per week), taking us up to the start of the school year.

Parent Tot lessons will be coming back soon, we will let you know as soon as those are ready to go. In the meantime, Splash with Me will be available on Friday’s through the Commons side of the facility. If you are looking to get your little ones feet wet while we wait for lessons, we encourage you to attend this activity! Please follow this link for the Commons schedule.

If your lessons were cut short in the previous session due to the COVID-19 closure here is how lessons credits were given.

  • If you are a member of Beacon Health & Fitness and used your account to sign up for lessons, a credit was applied to your account directly. This credit would then be used toward the next charge that was made to the account (lessons registration, monthly dues, etc.)
  • If you have a guest account or are a member of the Elkhart Health & Aquatics Commons, your account has a note with the credit amount listed to be used as a discount on this new round of swim lessons.

If you have any questions regarding this credit, please contact Hannah Estes by phone, email or at the Commons Information Desk on Monday & Wednesday from 10am-Noon and again 6pm-8pm and on Tuesday 7-9am.

If your child needs an evaluation or you need a refresher on the registration process I will be at the Commons Information Desk on Monday & Wednesday from 10am-Noon and again 6pm-8pm and on Tuesday 7-9am.
