Swim Lessons

Elkhart Health & Aquatics offers a wide variety of lessons for swimmers of all ages and abilities. Our certified, trained instructors lead your child through the motions while supporting and encouraging them.

The Aquatic Center offers over 30 swim lesson a week at different times of the day most convenient for you. As well as, adult and masters clinics, private lessons for children and adults, and competitive swim team. Learn to swim at the Elkhart Health & Aquatic center today!

PARENT/TOT LESSONS

*Lessons located at Beacon Health & Fitness Elkhart Therapy Pool

Age: 6 months-2+ – Designed to give young children a head start on swimming, to get comfortable in the water and begin to work on basic skills while interacting with instructor and other children in a fun and safe environment. Parents and children learn together to increase a child’s comfort level in the water and build a foundation of basic skills, such as arm and leg movements, breath control and basic independence/safety in the water. Lessons are fun-filled and help introduce water safety concepts, encouraging a healthy recreational habit that your entire family can enjoy.

LEARN TO SWIM INTRO AND DEVELOPMENT

*Lessons located at Beacon Health & Fitness Elkhart Lap Pool

LEVEL 1 – Introduction to Water Skills and Basic Water Safety – Age: 3-6+
For the beginner who is comfortable in the water.

Swimmers learn basics of swimming: bobbing, going under water, supported front and back floating, supported rolling over from front to back and back to front, supported gliding, supported flutter kick, supported front crawl arms and jumping in.

LEVEL 2 – Fundamental Aquatic Skills and Introducing Propulsion – Age: 3-6+
Swimmers should already be able to float on front and back and put head under water.

Swimmers will work on: independent front and back floating , independent rolling over from front to back and back to front, independent front and back glides, front crawl arms and kicks, back crawl arms and kicks, retrieving underwater objects, and jumping into water over their head.

LEVEL 3 – Stroke Development – Age: 3-10+
Swimmers should already be comfortable swimming front stroke and swimming on their back.

Swimmers will work on: gliding, freestyle with side breathing, backstroke, breaststroke and dolphin kicks, retrieving objects in deeper water, treading water, jumping into deep water and compact dives.

LEARN TO SWIM IMPROVEMENT AND REFINEMENT

*Lessons located in the Aquatic Center of Elkhart Health & Aquatics

LEVEL 4 – Stroke Improvement – Age: 4-18+
Swimmers should already be able to: swim front and back crawl 25 yards.

Swimmers will work on: rotary breathing, freestyle, backstroke, elementary backstroke, introduction to breaststroke and butterfly stroke and kick, intro to turning at wall, treading water, and diving in kneeling position.

LEVEL 5 – Stroke Refinement – Age: 4-18+
Swimmers should already be able to: swim freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke 25 yards, breaststroke kick, treading water, and dive.

Swimmers will work on: alternate breathing, stride jump, refinement of: freestyle, backstroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, breaststroke, dolphin kick and butterfly, open turn on front and back, feet-first surface dive, and treading water.

LEVEL 6 – Swimming & Skill Proficiency / Pre-Competitive – Age: 4-18+
Swimmers should already be able to: swim front and back crawl 50 yards, elementary backstroke 25 yards, breaststroke 25 yards, butterfly 25 yards, tread water for 3 minutes, and dive.

Swimmers will work on: All strokes, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly turns pike and tuck surface dive, dive from side/board, tread water for five minutes, and basic water rescue.

ADULT SWIM CLINICS

*All lessons are at the pool at Elkhart Health & Aquatics.

Intended for teens and adults who wish to improve their knowledge and skill for many reasons. For individuals to learn a basic level of water competency, to improve their skill and technique, increase their level of safety in the water, to improve & achieve their health and fitness goals, or to perhaps compete in triathlons or join a masters team.

Adult Swimming 1 — Improving Skills and Strokes / I can get from point A to point B… but it’s not pretty

Adult Swimming 2 — Swimming for Fitness / I have some stroke fundamentals, but need some coaching to get ready for a race or to join the masters team.

MASTERS SWIM TEAM

*All lessons are at the pool at Elkhart Health & Aquatics.

Masters swimmers are coached through swim workouts practicing technique and refinement. Practices vary on distances and intensities based on the individual swimmer’s abilities and goals.

Swimmers work on:

  • Competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke
  • Starts and turns
  • Drills, and everything in between!

Masters Swim Team offers five practices a week at varying days and times. All swimmers must be at least 18 years of age to participate.

PRIVATE LESSONS / TRAINING
