Pool Rules and Etiquette

Sharing Swim Lanes

  • 2 people in a lane can circle swim or split the lane
  • 3 people in a lane should circle swim
  • Be aware of how “wide” swimming movements may impact adjacent swimmers
  • Check for the position and speed of other swimmers prior to entering a lane
  • Swimmers entering a lane should inform others that they are entering. Do so by dangling a foot or placing a kickboard in at the end of the lane to get swimmers’ attention.
  • Observe and respect the pace and workout routine of other swimmers/exercisers in the lane
  • Swimmers/exercisers in a lane should remain aware and accommodating of arriving swimmers
  • Walkers can share a lane. A lane can accommodate up to 6 walkers.

Lap Swimming During Group Exercise Classes

  • Number of lanes open for lap swimming is based on the number of participants in the class
  • Lane 1 is for water exercises but will accommodate lap swimming
  • Lane 2-4 is for lap swimming but will accommodate water exercises
  • Plan your pool usage based on the group exercise schedule, on our app or at the information desk.

Swimming Pool Rules

  • Anyone who has or has had diarrhea in the past two (2) weeks shall not use the pool.
  • Anyone who has an area of exposed subepidermal tissue, open blisters, cuts, etc., is advised not to use the pool.
  • All persons shall take a cleansing shower before using the pool. A bather leaving the pool to use the toilet shall take another cleansing shower before returning to the pool enclosure. Indiana Health Code requires head-to-toe showers with soap prior to entering the therapy pool, lap pool and whirlpools.
  • Spitting, spouting of water, blowing of nose, and similar behavior in the pool is prohibited.
  • No running or rough play is permitted in the pool, on the runways, on diving boards, on floats, on platforms, in dressing rooms, or in showers.
  • Swimsuits are required. Street clothes are not allowed in the pool.
  • All diapers need to use plastic pants with tight fitting elastic at the legs and waist, or swim diapers. Do not change diapers at poolside.
  • No splashing, diving or cussing

Why is the Pre-Swim shower Important?

Showering is important before and after swimming. What does showering do? Taking a shower with soap removes numerous substances that you carry with you on a daily basis that affect the water quality and health of the other pool users. Some of these include cosmetics, lotions, body oils, perspiration and traces of urine and fecal matter. If you are swimming in the lap pool for an hour or just sitting in the hot whirlpool to relax, showering before is very important. You are not only protecting yourself, but the other swimmers from illnesses. Swimmers ear, skin infections or irritations, and respiratory issues are all things you can get from swimming in public pools where occupants do not shower before entering.
