Types of patients we serve include:<\/p>\n<h3>Cardiac patients<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Patients with severe burns, including those requiring hyperbaric oxygen<\/li>\n<li>Trauma patients, including those with head and spinal cord injuries<\/li>\n<li>Patients with acute surgical or vascular emergencies<\/li>\n<li>Patients with acute pulmonary or neurological emergencies<\/li>\n<li>Patients with a wide variety of critical care needs, including those requiring advanced invasive monitoring and mechanical ventilation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Critical Information \u2014 Needed at the Time of the Call<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Your hospital&#8217;s name and address<\/li>\n<li>Call-back telephone number<\/li>\n<li>Location of patient (ED, ICU, CCU)<\/li>\n<li>Initial diagnosis and\/or nature of the injuries<\/li>\n<li>Age(s), especially for pediatric patients<\/li>\n<li>Destination hospital, including name, address and unit\/department<\/li>\n<li>Accepting physician<\/li>\n<li>Need for telemetry<\/li>\n<li>Current invasive lines, assistive devices or drips, or specialty equipment needed<\/li>\n<li>If patient is hemodynamically stable<\/li>\n<li>Airway control status<\/li>\n<li>Vital signs<\/li>\n<li>Neurological status<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Scene Information<\/h3>\n<p>The name of the requesting agency and radio frequency for air-ground communication<br \/>\nLocation, including scene site, cross streets, landmarks and county name<br \/>\nBiological or chemical contamination at the scene<\/p>\n<h3>Trauma Scene Response Scenarios:<\/h3>\n<p>Mechanism of Injury<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Vehicle collision at &gt; 20 mph with ejected occupants.<\/li>\n<li>Pedestrian or cyclist struck by a motor vehicle at &gt; 10 mph<\/li>\n<li>Death of another individual in the same passenger compartment<\/li>\n<li>Falls &gt; 15 feet<\/li>\n<li>Multiple patients<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Clinical Condition<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Penetrating trauma or crush injury to the head, neck, chest, abdomen or pelvis<\/li>\n<li>Unstable vital signs<\/li>\n<li>Glasgow Coma Score &lt; 10 or deteriorating mental status<\/li>\n<li>Neurological status suggestive of spinal cord injury<\/li>\n<li>Obvious unstable pelvic injury<\/li>\n<li>Major burns ? 20% body surface area<\/li>\n<li>Partial or complete extremity amputations or vascular compromise<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Difficult Access Situations<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ground ambulance access impeded by road, weather or traffic conditions<\/li>\n<li>Remote area<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Time\/Distance Factors<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prolonged extrication time<\/li>\n<li>Prolonged transport time by ground ambulance<\/li>\n<li>Utilization of ground ambulance leaves the local community without adequate EMS coverage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Inter-Hospital Transports<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Receiving hospital, physician and unit<\/li>\n<li>Call-back telephone number<\/li>\n<li>Continuous infusions<\/li>\n<li>Invasive lines or specialty equipment needed<\/li>\n<li>Weight of the patient<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>If Patient is Being Transferred to Memorial Hospital of South Bend<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>If assistance is needed with obtaining an accepting physician, please provide the accepting physician&#8217;s name or specialty requested<\/li>\n<li>Please provide the unit\/department name if the patient is already accepted<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>For safety consideration with any type of air transport request, please advise Memorial MedFlight if any other flight service has turned down your request due to weather issues<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Request Considerations When to Request Memorial MedFlight Memorial MedFlight assists regional health care professionals with rapid, efficient critical care transport of patients with life-threatening illnesses or injuries.
