Mitchell E. Daugherty, MD

I grew up in rural Illinois with five siblings and a close-knit family. When I decided to pursue a career as a physician, rural family medicine seemed to be a fitting specialty and my medical school experiences affirmed that decision. I was part of the Rural Medical Education (RMED) program at the University of Illinois, and one of my favorite rotations was my M4 four-month rural rotation in Harrisburg, IL. I enjoyed the variety of medical complaints that I saw, the continuity of care with patients that I missed on my shorter rotations, and the experience of working as a “small town doc.” I am excited about the many different types of medicine that you can practice as a full-spectrum family physician and the opportunity in train in sports medicine. I am also excited to be moving to South Bend. Although I will always be a Fighting Illini at heart, I am looking forward to following Notre Dame sports and having a home team that can win a few games. Also, anytime Memorial gives me some time off you’ll be sure to find me wading in the St. Joseph River, working to catch some steelhead and smallmouth and maybe even working on my fly fishing.
