Mercedes received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago and her master of science degree in nursing with a specialty in nurse midwifery from Frontier Nursing University in Hyden, Kentucky. Mercedes worked as a certified nurse midwife at Alivio Medical Center in Chicago and South Haven Health System in Michigan. She previously worked at Memorial Hospital as a prenatal care coordinator for at-risk, pregnant Latino women and as a registered nurse in the Childbirth Unit.
She is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and the Midwives Alliance of North America.
Born in Guatemala and educated in the United States, Mercedes is bilingual and bicultural. She provides care for women throughout their lifespan, including preconceptual care, family planning, pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum and menopause. Her expertise also includes water birth and breastfeeding.
