High School Clinical Internship Program

About the program

Since 2014, Elkhart General Hospital has partnered with eight local high schools by educating students who are interested in health care. This program is a half-day, one semester, school credit internship offered to seniors. Students select from several career tracks including nursing, pharmacy, therapy, radiology and phlebotomy. Students will also be offered CPR training and certification by the end of their semester.

The program is an excellent opportunity for students to gain real-world experience before pursuing post-secondary education and has shown to be beneficial for students when applying to trade school or college.

About 90 students a year participate, with more than 350 graduates so far.

Eligibility requirements

Costs for items below are the responsibility of the student/parents:

  • Up-to-date vaccine records, including flu shot
  • PPD skin test (TB skin test)
  • Scrubs (Beacon will provide accepted students with guidelines for intern scrubs)

How to apply

Students interested in the program MUST contact your high school program representative. Check to see if your school participates. Your high school will provide information and application forms, which must be completed and submitted for review and acceptance into the program. Beacon encourages early application as there are a limited number of internships available. Beacon may request a student interview as part of the process.
