Human Trafficking: What is Our Responsibility

Presented By: Anita Ravi, MD

Vice Chair, Women Physicians Section (WPS) Governing Council Officer

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe human trafficking
  • Identify the health impacts of human trafficking
  • Implement trauma-informed care practices

Dr. Anita Ravi, a family medicine physician based in New York, serves as vice chair of the AMA Women Physicians Section (WPS) Governing Council for the 2020-2021 term. She also serves as the Young Physicians Section representative on the AMA-WPS for the 2020-2022 term.

The WPS is a member interest group within the AMA for women physicians and medical students. The Section Governing Council is responsible for increasing the membership, participation and leadership of women in the AMA as well as advocating on women’s health and women in medicine policy issues.

Dr. Ravi is the co-founder of the PurpLE Health Foundation. The Foundation is based on Dr. Ravi’s work creating and operating the PurpLE (Purpose: Listen and Engage) Clinic at the Institute for Family Health in New York City. Dr. Ravi’s vision for the PurpLE Clinic was simple, but pioneering: a community health center-based clinic targeted to the needs of survivors of human trafficking and individuals impacted by other forms of trauma, including rape and domestic violence.
