SUMMARY:Prostatic Artery Embolization Treatment for Symptomatic BPH: Getting Relief Without Sacrificing Function
DESCRIPTION:Click HERE to Access Recording Link \nProstatic Artery Embolization Treatment for Symptomatic BPH: Getting Relief Without Sacrificing Function \nPresented by: Dr. Michael Ginsburg\, Vascular and Interventional Radiology\, Beacon Health System \nProstate Artery Embolization Grand Rounds Objectives: \n\nPathophysiology and indications: Understand BPH\, LUTS\, and PAE candidacy.\nProcedure overview: Outline PAE technique and advantages.\nOutcomes: Review efficacy (IPSS\, QoL\, Qmax) vs. other treatments.\nSafety: Highlight risks and mitigation strategies.\nPatient selection: Define ideal candidates and contraindications.\nResearch and future: Summarize current data and emerging trends.\n\nAbout the presenter \nEarly in his training\, Michael Ginsburg\, MD\, became inspired by the field of Vascular and Interventional Radiology and its innovative\, minimally invasive approach to delivering patient-centered care\, in a variety of ailments and diseases\, with great outcomes. Dr. Ginsburg says that interventional radiology is a rapidly growing field that has continued to evolve all throughout his career\, contributing to the advancement of medicine and allowing him to provide treatment options to his patients that previously were considered impossible. \nDr. Ginsburg was exposed to the medical profession growing up\, since both of his grandparents were physicians. His grandfather\, a cardiologist\, was a role model for him. “He approached medicine as a true vocation. He loved taking care of his patients – with personalized attention\, compassion\, and dedication\,” he says. “His ability to not only heal the physical ailments\, but also be sympathetic to the human spirit\, while being an expert in his field\, inspired me to go into medicine.” \nEach patient Dr. Ginsburg sees receives his full attention. While he practices evidence-based medicine that is current and up to date\, he maintains the perspective that even when treating the same disease\, each case is unique. “My philosophy is to give every patient the attention they deserve\, treating the whole person in a variety of clinical settings and partnering with them as they continue their healing journey\,” he says. His priority is to educate and engage his patients from the first moment he meets them. He takes the time to explain the clinical reasoning behind the work-up required to make an accurate\, timely and patient-centered diagnosis. Dr. Ginsburg believes that making every effort to ensure that his patients are well-informed about their own health reduces their anxiety and builds trust. Moreover\, an increased understanding puts patients in a better position to make informed decisions regarding their health care\, leading to improved outcomes. \nDr. Ginsburg is aware that most people aren’t familiar with Vascular and Interventional Radiology. When asked what it is\, he explains that VIR is minimally invasive surgery performed under image guidance\, done through a pinhole. Most people require no hospital stay and receive their care on an outpatient basis. \nDr. Ginsburg earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his Doctor of Medicine degree at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He completed Radiology residency training at the University of Chicago\, followed by a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Stanford\, California. He is double board certified in Diagnostic Radiology and in Vascular and Interventional Radiology. Prior to joining Beacon Health\, Dr. Ginsburg practiced in Illinois and Wisconsin\, with a focus on minimally invasive treatment of vascular disease\, interventional oncology\, liver disease\, as well as men’s and women’s health.

SUMMARY:Pediatric Hyperosmotic Hyperglycemic Syndrome and Diabetic Ketoacidosis
DESCRIPTION:Click HERE to Access Recording Link  \nPediatric Hyperosmotic Hyperglycemic Syndrome and Diabetic Ketoacidosis \nPresented by: Dr. Siarhei Slinko\, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine\, Beacon Health System \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDiscuss what Hyperosmotic Hyperglycemic Syndrome is and how it presents\nReview management recommendations of Hyperosmotic Hyperglycemic Syndrome\n\nAbout the presenter \nDr. Siarhei Slinko became hooked on a career in medicine as a  teenager in high school\, taking inspiration from his father\, who was a military doctor\, and his sister\, a pediatric surgeon. \n“During her residency\, I shadowed my sister on one of her busy calls\,” he explains. “I still remember the striking impression of witnessing the emotional transition of those little patients and their parents – from the physical and emotional pain and fear to relief\, joy and happiness – because of the medical team’s work. I realized then I wanted to be part of that no matter how hard my journey would be to become a doctor!” \nFor Dr. Slinko\, there is nothing more rewarding than helping a critically ill child recover. “The job is tough both emotionally and physically\, but so satisfying and joyful.” He chose this specialty in his fourth year of medical school. “I had been moonlighting in the pediatric ICU as a nurse and loved it.” He chose to practice at Beacon because of the strong commitment to putting kids first. “During the interview process\, that’s a statement I heard at every level: ‘Do the right thing for patients and we will all support you!’ That resonated with me a lot\, and that is what I consider to be the priority above everything else.” \nAs for his philosophy of care\, Dr. Slinko believes that kindness\, honesty and integrity matter. “I treat and care for my patients like I would want myself and my loved ones to be treated\,” he says. “I will help the ones who need me to the best of my ability. They can trust me with their lives.” \nDr. Slinko believes that an individual’s life is fulfilled when it’s dedicated to the service of others. “From that aspect\, serving and helping critically ill children is a blessing\, privilege and completely fulfills my life’s goals.”
