DESCRIPTION:Click HERE to Access the Teams Recording \nBasics of Cleft Lip and Palate \nPresented By: Katelyn Makar\, MD\, MS\nAssistant Professor of Surgery\, IU School of Medicine \nDr. Katelyn Makar has an expertise in caring for patients with cleft and craniofacial conditions. She performs cleft lip and cleft palate repairs\, as well as lip and nasal revisions for cleft lip patients as they grow and develop. She also partners with pediatric neurosurgery to evaluate and treat infants with craniosynostosis. Given her broad plastic surgery training\, she is also qualified to care for patients with breast anomalies\, such as macromastia\, tuberous breast deformity\, and Poland syndrome. She also provides surgical options for males with overdevelopment of breast tissue\, often referred to as gynecomastia. \nRegarding skin conditions\, she treats vascular anomalies\, nevi\, and cysts\, especially in the head and neck region. She is also trained in cosmetic ear procedures for prominent ear (otoplasty)\, as well as ear reconstruction for patients with microtia. \nDr. Katelyn Makar earned her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2013 and completed her plastic surgery training at the University of Michigan in 2021. She completed a two-year research fellowship between 2017-2019\, while also earning a Master of Science in healthcare research. She remained at the University of Michigan to complete her craniofacial fellowship from 2021-2022. She has been appointed assistant professor of surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine and is a critical member of the cleft and craniofacial team at Riley Children’s Health. \n

His primary care practice has a special focus on diabetes\, hypertension\, hyperlipidemia\, obesity\, depression\, and anxiety. He obtained his pharmacy degree from the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy where he serves as clinical adjunct faculty precepting doctor of pharmacy candidates during their advanced practice clinical rotations.

DESCRIPTION:Click HERE to Access the Teams Link  \nConcussion: An Update \nPresented By: Cody Ward\, MD – Beacon Bone and Joint Specialists\nLinda Mansfield\, MD\, CAQSM – Sports Medicine Fellowship Director\, Memorial Family Medical Residency \nLearning Objectives: \n\nPresent updates from the most recent consensus statement from the 6th International Conference on Concussion in Sport\nReview the SCOAT6 – a validated office concussion assessment tool\nDiscuss return to play protocol as recommended by the CDC and adopted as policy for all schools contracting with Beacon for Athletic Training services.\nReview treatment for patients with prolonged concussion symptoms\n\nDr. Ward is a family and sports medicine physician with a strong background in athlete care and medical education. He completed his undergraduate degree in Physiology at Southern Illinois University and earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois. He went on to complete his Family Medicine residency at Memorial Hospital South Bend\, followed by advanced training in the South Bend–Notre Dame Sports Medicine Fellowship program.\nDr. Ward joined Beacon Bone and Joint Specialists in 2023 and serves as faculty with the South Bend–Notre Dame Sports Medicine Fellowship\, where he continues to teach and mentor residents and medical students. He has extensive experience managing a wide range of athletic injuries—including concussion—in athletes from weekend warriors to professionals. He currently serves as the team physician for John Adams High School. \n  \nDr. Mansfield is a family and sports medicine physician whose career reflects a deep commitment to medical education and athlete care. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Dayton and earned her medical degree from The Ohio State University. After residency at Memorial\, she became the first graduate of the South Bend–Notre Dame Sports Medicine Fellowship program.\nDr. Mansfield spent ten years practicing Family Medicine and Sports Medicine in Ohio before returning to Memorial to join both the family medicine residency and sports medicine programs. Since 2013\, she has served as the Sports Medicine Fellowship Director\, working closely with Beacon Athletic Trainers as Medical Director. She is also the team physician for Holy Cross College\, IUSB\, Washington High School\, and Edwardsburg High School.
