She came to South Bend for residency at Memorial Family Medicine Residency and stayed to complete her sports medicine training at the South Bend – Notre Dame Sports Medicine Fellowship. Dr. Sears enjoys practicing full spectrum family medicine with a special focus in the care of athletes and musculoskeletal injuries.\nAt Family Medicine of South Bend\, Dr. Sears is able to provide a wide array of services to her patients\, including in-house X-Rays\, musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnosis and procedures\, compartment pressure testing\, casting\, and bracing. Dr. Sears provides care to a variety of athletes\, from high school to collegiate and professional athletes and everything in between.\nIn addition to serving patients in the office\, Dr. Sears is the team physician for Notre Dame Rugby and Boxing. Campbell Professor of Radiology.  He received his AB Summa Cum Laude from Wabash College\, MD and PhD (Committee on Social Thought) with honors from the University of Chicago\, and MPH from Indiana University.  He was a Chancellor Scholar of the Federal Republic of Germany and received honorary doctoral degrees from Garrett Theological Seminary at Northwestern University and Wabash College.  He is a ten-time recipient of the Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award\, and in 2015 received the Indiana University School of Medicine’s inaugural Inspirational Educator Award.  He was named the 2008 Outstanding Educator by the Radiological Society of North America\, the 2011 American Roentgen Ray Society Berlin Scholar in Professionalism\, and the 2012 Distinguished Educator of the American Roentgen Ray Society.  In 2012\, he received the Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Award for Teaching Excellence\, the top teaching award from the Association of American Medical Colleges.  In 2013\, he was the Spinoza Professor at the University of Amsterdam.  He is the author of over 1\,100 articles and has published 15 books\, including We Make a Life by What We Give (2008)\, Tesla (2019)\, Marie Curie (2020)\, and Contagion (2021).  He has served as president of the medical staff at IU Health\, president of the faculty at IU School of Medicine\, and president of the Indiana Radiological Society\, and he is currently president-elect of the Indiana State Medical Association.

He earned his PhD in theological ethics from Fordham University\, following earlier degrees in theology and humanities\, and has a background in Christian ethics and virtue ethics with a longstanding commitment to medical ethics\, clergy ethics\, and moral formation \nWithin S‑CHIP—a hands-on summer initiative with undergrads and medical students—Dr. Kotva emphasizes the integration of community health\, justice\, and innovative community-based practice. As co‑director of the Ethics\, Equity\, and Justice concentration\, he guides students through the moral dimensions of medicine and health disparities\, blending narrative ethics and virtue ethics with experiential learning opportunities in the South Bend community. \nA published scholar with expertise spanning virtue ethics\, narrative ethics\, theology\, and clinical ethics\, Dr. Kotva has contributed widely to understanding the moral formation of clinicians and the ethics of caregiving institutions.  His approach foregrounds justice\, social determinants of health\, and community-centered scholarship. \nAt Indiana University\, he received the Trustees’ Teaching Award in April 2025 in recognition of his excellence in guiding future physicians.

She is responsible for ensuring there are effective and sustainable models and processes in place to improve the health of our communities through measurable and effective behavior changes that will ultimately impact the quality of life of community members. When not working Kimberly enjoys volunteering in the community and spending time with family. \nCassy White serves as the Manager of Community Health Outcomes for Beacon Community Impact. She oversees and supports the work of the Health Equity and Outcomes team to develop and implement the community needs assessment and build up the department’s data infrastructure. She also oversees the Fetal Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) Program. Cassy has over 5 years of experience in community\, public and environmental health. In her past professional careers\, she served as an epidemiologist focused on health equity\, infectious disease surveillance and behavioral health surveillance. \nCassy holds a Bachelor’s of Science in International Health from Bethel University and a Master’s in Public Health from Indiana Wesleyan University. She is passionate about using data for action to advance health equity across the community to change the correlation between inequities and quality of life.

DESCRIPTION:Click HERE to Access OnDemand Recording  \nClick HERE to Access CME Evaluation  \nEMTALA – General Considerations and Receiving Hospital Obligations \nPresented By: Chris Eades\, Attorney – Hall Render Advisory Services \nLearning Objectives: \n\nAppreciate the genesis of EMTALA and understand the basic regulatory framework attendant to same;\nDistinguish the legal obligations of receiving hospitals (from transferring facilities) and understand the implications for non-compliance with these obligations; and\nConsider and apply best practices to ensure receiving hospital are in a position to evidence compliance with their EMTALA obligations.\n\n  \nChris Eades focuses his practice in the areas of virtual care and medical staff governance. With respect to the latter\, Chris regularly counsels clients on matters involving medical staff credentialing and peer review\, as well as interpretation and application of hospital and professional licensure rules\, Medicare conditions of participation\, accreditation standards\, and medical staff governing documents. He is engaged by the firm’s clients to assist with the drafting and implementation of medical staff bylaws\, credentialing policies\, rules and regulations\, peer review sharing arrangements\, FPPE/OPPE processes and other medical staff policies and procedures. Peer review confidentiality and peer review immunity are critical to effective hospital and medical staff quality review. Chris frequently represents hospitals and other health care entities in the context of medical staff quality review and corrective action processes\, fair hearings and related litigation\, assisting these clients to maximize the intended benefit of peer review confidentiality and to achieve state and federal peer review immunity. \nAs part of his virtual care practice\, Chris regularly works with health care entities and providers throughout the country\, and also in other areas of the world\, to develop and implement virtual care programs. There is wide variability among jurisdictions in their approach to telehealth and telemedicine. Chris assists the firm’s clients to navigate this variability and to understand and appropriately apply the relevant telemedicine rules and regulations\, particularly those involving the professional practice of virtual care. These matters routinely involve professional licensure requirements\, delegated credentialing agreements\, scope of practice considerations\, informed consent for telemedicine services\, related recordkeeping requirements\, telemedicine prescription requirements and other aspects of virtual care workflow. Chris enjoys speaking at conferences and events throughout the year on aspects of virtual care\, particularly as the applicable regulatory framework continues to evolve in response to the wealth of potential made possible through telemedicine technology. \n
