Spasticity Management Following Brain\/Spinal Cord Insult<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\"\"Dr. Christopher Ketcham was born and raised in South Bend, grew up on the south side of town and attended Marian High School.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was exposed to medicine at a very early age. I can remember sitting around the dinner table while I was in grade school, and my mom, a pediatric nurse, telling us about her day. My fascination with the body grew as I began to participate in sports and only continued to expand with my high school physiology and biology classes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Ketcham chose to study medicine at an osteopathic medical school because he appreciated its core teachings of the body as a complete functional unit and the body\u2019s innate ability to heal itself. These principles carry over into his practice in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.<\/p>\n

\u201cTypically, by the time I see the patient either in the inpatient rehabilitation or outpatient setting, he or she is already on the road to recovery. It\u2019s my job to work with patients to help them overcome physical impairments due to stroke, traumatic brain injury, amputation, spinal cord injury or a medical illness. Sometimes it\u2019s as easy as prescribing an ankle brace. Many times, however, I\u2019ll work with therapists, prosthetists, social workers and other physicians as part of a full rehabilitation team to aid in patients\u2019 physical recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n
