She also has an Addiction Medicine practice at Oaklawn<br \/>\nSouth Bend.<\/p>\n<p>Her interest in Addiction Medicine grew out of her time as a junior faculty member at Indiana<br \/>\nUniversity School of Medicine\u2019s Department of Emergency Medicine. There, she designed and<br \/>\nimplemented Project POINT, a collaborative effort aimed at identifying, treating and linking<br \/>\npatients with opioid use disorders to life saving medications and post discharge treatment.<br \/>\nSince moving to South Bend in 2019, Dr Brucker has supported expanded access to medications<br \/>\nfor Opioid Use Disorder both within Beacon Health System and through her work in the Addiction<br \/>\nMedicine program at Oaklawn South Bend and with the county&#8217;s Opioid Response Team.<br \/>\nDr. Brucker completed her emergency medicine residency at Northwestern University&#8217;s Feinberg<br \/>\nSchool of Medicine in Chicago, IL. She is board certified in both Emergency and Addiction<br \/>\nMedicine. She is a graduate of Harvard Medical School. and earned her undergraduate degree in<br \/>\nBiochemistry from DePauw University. She was born and raised in Minnesota.<br \/>\nParticipants will be able to identify the 3 FDA approved medications for Opioid Use Disorder<br \/>\n(OUD)<br \/>\nBy understanding precipitated withdrawal, participants will be feel confident in starting<br \/>\npatients on buprenorphine both in the ER\/hospital and at home<br \/>\nParticipants will know how to manage common clinical challenges that arise for patients on<br \/>\nbuprenorphine-naloxone (i.e. pregnancy, acute pain and chronic liver disease).<br \/>\nThis session is intended to support providers who are interested in starting buprenorphinenaloxone<br \/>\nin the ER or hospital\/other settings but might feel unsure of how to go about doing it.<br \/>\nWe\u2019ll review the common forms of treatment for Opioid Use Disorder and focus on<br \/>\nbuprenorphine-naloxone. The session will cover both how to help people move from active drug<br \/>\nuse onto buprenorphine as well as how to take care of people who are maintained on<br \/>\nbuprenorphine.
