New visitor identification system launched at Elkhart General and Memorial hospitals

The Elkhart General Hospital and Memorial Hospital guest services and security teams have introduced the Fast-Pass visitor identification system, following a soft launch at these locations.

All visitors, vendors and off-duty associates and providers now will be issued a photo-identification visitor pass upon entering the hospitals. Individuals will also use the badge to check out when leaving.

“The Fast-Pass® visitor identification system will enhance our ability to provide a safe and secure place for our patients, visitors and colleagues,” said Craig Whitfield, chief of police and director of security at Memorial Hospital.

Here’s how Fast-Pass works: Visitors will present a valid picture ID to security or guest services team members upon entering. A peel-and-stick badge with the visitor’s photo, name, date and destination will be created. Visitors will wear the badge throughout their visit as well as show the badge to the security or guest services team when leaving the hospital.

“Similar visitor identification systems are in use at hospitals around the country,” said Terry Cochran, director of security at Elkhart General Hospital. “Fast-Pass supports our existing safety protocols and helps us accurately account for the number of people within our facility at any given time.”

Beacon hospitals continue to follow limited visitation guidelines. Visitors must complete a COVID-19 screening and wear a disposable mask at all times inside any hospital or facility, including while in a patient room. A maximum of two healthy visitors at a time per patient continue to be allowed.
