Concussions are a scary reality because they can happen to anyone. A concussion is a severe brain injury that usually has short-term effects that can include headaches and problems with concentration, memory, balance and coordination.
Because children and teens’ brains are still developing, they are most at risk when playing sports. If a concussion isn’t managed correctly, it can lead to behavior, memory and academic problems.
That is why Beacon created the Concussion Clinic staffed with a medical team that creates a specific plan of care for each concussion patient. As one of the region’s leading comprehensive concussion management programs, Beacon Concussion Clinic is guiding the recovery of people, especially young athletes, so they may return to play/activity as soon as safely possible.
With correct care, proper healing time and limited activity, most concussions may go away within seven to 14 days; however, a small percentage can cause ongoing symptoms. When this occurs, our medical team will help with their recovery.
Our committed team includes:
- Certified athletic trainers
- Sports medicine physicians
- Physical therapists specializing in balance and coordination therapy using NeuroCom® technology
- Speech/language pathologists
If you or someone know suffers a concussion, you don’t need a physician’s referral to visit our clinic.
