Ultrasound

Ultrasound tests use a small, hand held transducer (wand-like instrument) that is pressed gently against your skin in the area being examined. The transducer sends out high-pitched sound waves that are reflected back to the transducer. A computer analyzes the sound waves and converts them into pictures that are displayed on a monitor. Pictures or videos can be made of the ultrasound images. Since ultrasound images are captured in real-time, they show the structure and movement of your body’s internal organs, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels.
