Soft pretzels, trail mix bar and more

Have you heard … the latest from Memorial Hospital Nutritional Services

Turning 100 is a very big deal and should be celebrated, even when you’re in the hospital.

That’s exactly what Kelsey Herwick, RD, CD, thought when she learned that a Memorial Hospital patient was turning 100 last week. Kelsey requested and delivered a special meal tray from the associates in Nutritional Services to the patient, named Verna. The tray included a cake baked by Deb Gabbard in Nutritional Services just for the occasion.

135. That’s how many foot-long subs the associates in Nutritional Services made and delivered on Thursday and Friday to the Memorial Hospital nursing team. The subs were delivered to units across the hospital to say ‘thank you’ to the nurses who are caring for so many patients right now during the especially high census. …

Soft pretzels and a trail mix snack bar are the latest additions to the Memorial Hospital cafeteria. The soft pretzel machine, with cheese, debuted last week — and have been selling out — and the trail mix snack bar is set to open Tuesday. The self-serve trail mix snack bar, located in the former cobbler station, will include such items as dried fruits and nuts that can be weighed in small paper bags.

Sounds perfect for satisfying a mid-afternoon craving. …

Bottled sodas in the Memorial Hospital cafeteria are being changed out for Pepsi products. Those associates who prefer Coke can still get their drinks from the freestyle machines. …

And last, but not least…

Denise Rinehart
, Nutritional Aide, has been recognized as the “Engaged Associate” for the month of January in Nutritional Services. Late last year, Denise was tasked with updating and upgrading the offerings in the Surgery Lounge at Memorial Hospital. She created new sandwiches, wraps, fruit cups and desserts. “Not only did she become engaged in the process,” said Gail Weismann, Memorial’s Nutritional Services director, “but because of her work, Denise also took a lot of pride in what she accomplished.”
