Overview

Connective tissue disease refers to conditions that affect the material in the body that gives tissues their shape and strength. The conditions often affect the muscles, joints and skin. Symptoms in one person with the condition may not be the same as those in another person with the condition.

Symptoms

Symptoms vary. Early symptoms often involve swollen fingers or hands. Fingertips may become white and numb in response to cold or stress. Muscle and joint pain also can be symptoms.

Treatments

Treatment depends on how serious the disease is and the organs that are involved.
