Health Equity - Committed to Our Community

Giving back

Every year, Beacon contributes to our communities in a wide variety of ways. We do this by researching which health issues most impact the people we serve, providing for those in need, working closely with business partners and more. Beacon is proud to give back to our communities to make them better places to live and work for us all.

Community Impact (CHNA)

Beacon Community Impact partners with organizations in our region to improve the holistic health and well-being of families and individuals in our communities based on results from the Community Health Needs Assessment.

Helping Hands

Beacon supports our associates’ volunteer passions and interests outside of work. In cooperation with Acts of Service, we offer our associates paid time off to volunteer for area not-for-profits. By volunteering during work hours, associates gain flexibility if they might not be able to do so because of work, family and home schedules. They can use the Acts of Service website to browse opportunities and track volunteer hours for both paid volunteer time and personal volunteering.

Mental and Behavioral Health Care

Beacon’s Mental and Behavioral Health Care services, including inpatient psychiatric care at Epworth Hospital, work with you and your loved ones to help you find your path to emotional wellness.

Financial assistance (Charity Care)

Beacon is dedicated to making health care services accessible — and affordable — to all of our patients.

COVID-19 response

When the pandemic hit, Beacon leaders and associates at every level stepped up to find new ways to continue providing safe, exceptional care while supporting our frontline workers.

School of Education

Health professional education & research

One of the ways Beacon continues delivering the very best care to our communities — and beyond — is through a nonstop commitment to learning. By training the next generation of health care providers, enhancing the knowledge of current providers, contributing to life-saving research and collaborating with leading health care experts, we ensure the providers who care for you and your family have access to the most advanced knowledge and resources available.

Family Medicine Residency

Beacon offers a strong teaching experience to our medical residents and has attracted high-caliber students to our program over the past several decades.

Medical education and training/Continuing Medical Education (CME)

Beacon is dedicated to ensuring that all of our medical professionals have the ability to expand their expertise by providing continuing education opportunities.

Clinical Research

Beacon Clinical Research is involved in studies that develop medications and devices for a variety of health conditions, while also providing patients local access to the most advanced treatments and medicines.

Pharmacy Residency

Clinical pharmacists in the program learn to provide exemplary patient care as part of your team.

Beacon Scholar Program

In order to combat the critical nursing shortage our community is facing, Beacon and Ivy Tech are collaborating to create a program that will provide financial aid to nursing students and help expand Ivy Tech’s capacity.

Mayo Clinic Care Network

Your experts have experts through Beacon’s Mayo Clinic Care Network membership. Your providers can get second opinions and input from Mayo Clinic physicians, giving you the highest quality care, right here at home.

Programs and partnerships that support our community

To address the nursing shortage that our community is facing, Beacon Health System and Ivy Tech Community College have collaborated to create the Beacon Scholar Program. This program will give financial support to Ivy Tech Associate of Science in Nursing students by covering the cost of their tuition, fees and books as well as provide students with a living stipend.

Occupational Health

The health of our local workforce is essential to the health of us all. Beacon partners with employers to provide valuable solutions for all business medicine needs. Our worksite clinics provide your employees with expert medical care, all without leaving work.

Mini-Medical University for Teens

Occupational Nursing

Injuries and illnesses can strike while employees are on the clock. An on-site Beacon registered nurse, who is experienced in occupational nursing, can provide immediate care in your facility.

Trauma education

To help our communities stay prepared for emergencies, Beacon educates physicians, nurses, allied health professionals and the public in various topics of trauma care. We also conduct outreach programs that teach injury prevention and host an annual Trauma Symposium for area trauma clinicians.

Certified Athletic trainers

Beacon certified athletic trainers are located in local high schools and colleges to provide emergency care, evaluate and treat acute and chronic injuries, make referrals and support the healthy development of all our student-athletes with exceptional, connected care.

Life support training

Medical professionals needing certification and community members who want to be prepared for an emergency can learn first aid, CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
