Overview

Malignant hyperthermia is an inherited, severe reaction to general anesthesia drugs, such as those used during surgery. A previous reaction or a relative with the condition are risk factors.

Symptoms

Malignant hyperthermia causes a high temperature, a racing heart, and muscle break down.

Treatments

Reactions are addressed with drugs, fluids, and by use of a cooling blanket.
