Description

A fatty lump most often located between the skin and muscle layer below the skin.

Overview

Lipomas are slow growing and usually harmless. Rarely, they can be cancerous. Some people have more than one lipoma.

Symptoms

Lipomas are just under the skin and move easily under finger pressure. They commonly occur in the neck, shoulders, back, abdomen, arms, and thighs.

Treatments

Treatment generally isn't needed. But if a lipoma is bothersome, painful, or growing, surgical removal may be needed.
