When to seek immediate medical care
See a healthcare professional right away if bleeding:
- Soaks two or more pads or tampons an hour for several hours in a row.
- Happens with tiredness or shortness of breath.
When to make a doctor's appointment
Make an appointment with your care team if bleeding:
- Affects daily life.
- Lasts longer than a week or happens between periods.
- Has blood clots that appear more than one day during the period.
- Is heavier than usual.
- Needs two pads to keep blood from soaking through.
- Happens after menopause.
