Irritation and swelling of the ear, often from infection.
Otitis is irritation and swelling, also known as inflammation, of the ear. It's often linked to an infection. Otitis can affect the inner, middle or outer ear. It can be painful. It can last a short time, known as acute. Or it can be ongoing, known as chronic.
Symptoms might include ear pain, fever, fluid coming out of the ear and trouble hearing.
Most ear infections go away without treatment. Antibiotics can help in some cases.
