Overview
With selective mutism, a child who can speak consistently fails to do so in certain situations. For example, the child may speak at home with family but not at school. This can interfere with school and social functioning. It often starts before age 5 and is associated with anxiety disorder.
Treatments
Treatment usually includes behavior therapy.
