Clinical Superstars

Medical assistants make invaluable contributions to our more than 50 Beacon Medical Group practices. On May 10, their hard work was celebrated thanks to Beacon Medical Group Administration. The celebration was punctuated by the recognition of more than 100 associates who are now certified clinical medical assistants (CCMA) after passing a rigorous exam.

What medical assistants do is an important part in a patient’s visit to the medical office. They prepare patients for examination by taking blood pressure, weight and temperature and reporting patient history summary.

The impetus behind the effort to have medical assistants clinically certified is new Medicare guidelines that require all medical assistants to be credentialed to put orders into the electronic health record.

This initiative to prepare and certify more than 100 non-certified Beacon Medical Group clinical medical assistants was a yearlong process, led by the crucial leadership of Karen Pershing, CMA (AAMA) from the BMG Quality Department. Every single medical assistant seeking the clinical certification received it.

There are more than 200 medical assistants within BMG with varying degrees of certification. BMG plans to offer workshops for medical assistants who must complete continuing education credits. Thank you to all of our medical assistants and the work they do to make Beacon a wonderful place to receive quality health care.
