Volunteering at Memorial is “a blessing”

When we asked Marjorie and Doug Fordyce about why they volunteer together at Memorial Hospital, they shared the following thoughts — together.

“When we retired in 2003, we were looking for a way in which we could be of service to the community,” the couple explains.

They decided to join the Ambassador Services team.

“When volunteering in the surgery waiting room, there are several small things that we do that help the families of patients having surgery,” Doug and Marjorie describe. “A friendly smile, offering a cup of coffee, helping them find their way to the cafeteria or other places in the hospital. A few kind words and a soft touch to a young mother whose baby is having surgery also means a lot from volunteers like us.”

Fifteen years have passed since they started volunteering together at Memorial.

“And our decision has been a blessing to us,” Marjorie and Doug agree.
