Beacon staff happy to help patient get back on the road after appointment in harsh weather

Four associates at Beacon Medical Group Fulton Street Specialists were not about to leave a patient stranded in a snowy ditch after she had just braved Wednesday’s harsh weather to keep her appointment.

As the patient waited to be called back, she explained to staff how she had missed the “driveway.” Medical assistant Alix Warner assumed she was referring to her driveway at home.

That is, until Warner looked out the window after the patient’s appointment had ended. There she was, driving her car back and forth as she tried to maneuver the vehicle out of a ditch.

Warner realized the patient had left her car there to make her appointment on time.

Warner, medical assistant Stacy Park and medical receptionist Tamara House immediately ran out to help. A few minutes later, Ashley Hupp, also a medical assistant, saw them struggling and joined the effort in the cold and snow.

With three hard shoves, the foursome managed to push the car back onto the street, allowing the patient to be on her way.

Warner said she expressed gratitude for the aid.

“She said we didn’t have to help her because her husband was on his way, but I said we would at least try,” Warner said.

Hupp said the woman looked relieved.

“Before I ran out there, I definitely thought that we were going to have to call a tow truck,” Hupp said. “When the three other girls ran out there before me, they couldn’t quite push her out, so I ran out there, and with the four of us, we were able to get her out!”

While she has never done anything quite like that at her job, Hupp said it’s certainly not the first time the staff has accomplished something as a team that they couldn’t have done alone.

“We have a very strong team atmosphere that helps us to get things done,” Hupp said.
