Hospital Week design contest winner says, “I wanted everyone to feel included”

Kelsey Ratering sat down one evening and put pencil to paper.

She started with a heart shape outline because “connect with heart” is part of the Beacon mission statement. Kelsey also knew she wanted every associate to feel connected to her design and the theme, “For a healthier you.”

From there, her ideas started pouring onto paper. Fruits and vegetables. A basketball, jump rope, barbell and scale. A file folder for associates who work behind the scenes. Clinical items, including a stethoscope, X-ray, mask, thermometer and blood pressure cuff. A Sunburst Races bib.

About three hours later, Kelsey had created a detailed design by hand, start to finish, for Beacon’s Hospital Week contest.

But the Beacon Health & Fitness Three Rivers associate says she didn’t tell anyone she entered, because she never imagined she would be named a finalist.

Kelsey also never imagined her design would be selected as the winner by Beacon associates. Her artwork can be found on hospital banners and on Hospital Week social media posts celebrating our amazing associates – associates like Kelsey.

“This is the first time I’ve designed something like this, and I was so proud when I won because Three Rivers Health has only been part of Beacon for a little over two years. And my co-workers are excited my design won, too.”
