This research collaboration agreement provides Notre Dame researchers and Beacon clinicians and practitioners with a clear framework to pursue collaborative research projects. It aims to deepen their existing relationship and accelerate joint clinical research opportunities that will result in improved patient care and clinical outcomes in the local region.

What prompted the development of this collaboration at this time?

Beacon and Notre Dame have worked together on many previous projects and have long been interested in collaborating in a more concrete way. A formalized research collaboration has been established at this time due to both organizations’ growing interest in expanding community relationships and supporting local health outcomes.

How does Beacon already work with Notre Dame, and what are some examples of past collaborations between the organizations?

Beacon and Notre Dame have a long history of collaborating on health-focused research projects. Stories on these joint projects can be seen on the https://beaconhealthsystem.org/transforming-community-health/ Additionally, in August of 2024, a relationship between Notre Dame Athletics and Beacon was announced, and this new collaboration builds on that initiative.

The key components of this collaboration agreement are the establishment of a pathway to develop joint research projects, the ability to securely exchange data relevant to collaborative projects, and the creation of a management structure with stakeholders from both organizations to oversee projects supported by the collaboration.

What research opportunities will this collaboration create for both Beacon and Notre Dame?

This collaboration will create many new, innovative research opportunities by allowing Notre Dame researchers to conduct research and coordinate access to clinical settings and Beacon clinicians to identify and address healthcare issues through research-based approaches.

Yes, researchers, clinicians, and practitioners are highly encouraged to identify external funding sources to help support any research projects proposed through this collaborative agreement. Securing third-party funding not only provides financial resources, but it also significantly increases projects' credibility and collaboration potential.

Is there a set duration for this collaboration?

This agreement has a term of five years, which can be extended with the approval of both organizations.
