Beacon Health System names first Chief of Oncology; advances Notre Dame research collaboration

Dr. Anas Al-Janadi

Beacon Health System today announced that Dr. Anas Al-Janadi has been named as its first Chief of Oncology and Associate Director for Clinical and Community Research at the University of Notre Dame. This new position reflects Beacon’s continued commitment to advancing cancer care across northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.

His appointment also represents an important step forward in Beacon’s multiyear research collaboration agreement with the University.

In this role at Beacon, Dr. Al-Janadi will lead the growth and transformation of oncology services across the health system. He will focus on strengthening multidisciplinary care, expanding access to services closer to home, advancing clinical outcomes and enhancing the patient experience. As he works to reshape the future of oncology services, Dr. Al-Janadi will bring together clinical excellence, research and innovation to better serve patients and families across the region.

“Dr. Al-Janadi stood out for his clinical vision, collaborative leadership and deep commitment to bringing research and innovation directly to patients,” said Mark Brett, Chief Operating Officer at Beacon Health System. “We are excited about what his arrival means for our teams, our oncology program and the communities we serve.”

He will begin his new role at Beacon on June 29.

Dr. Al-Janadi most recently served as Chair of the Department of Cancer Care Services at Corewell Health. Since 2018, he built and advanced multidisciplinary oncology services across the health system by strengthening care delivery, aligning physicians and caregivers around shared goals and expanding access to high-quality cancer care. A board-certified hematologist and medical oncologist with more than 30 years of clinical experience, Dr. Al-Janadi is also an active researcher with published work across a range of oncology disciplines. His appointment followed a comprehensive national search.

Through his joint role with Notre Dame’s Harper Cancer Research Institute, Dr. Al-Janadi will help bridge clinical care and scientific discovery, creating new opportunities to accelerate research, expand clinical trials and bring innovative treatment options to patients throughout our region.

This position was envisioned as part of Beacon and Notre Dame’s multiyear research collaboration, with a shared commitment to advancing oncology research and improving health outcomes in the communities served by our organizations.

“I am truly honored to join Beacon as Chief of Oncology, and I’m excited for the work ahead and proud to be part of the Beacon and Notre Dame communities,” Dr. Al-Janadi said. “My gratitude runs deep for the trust placed in me, for the mission-driven culture you’ve built, and for the opportunity to serve patients and families at such a pivotal moment in cancer care. I’m energized by the talent, compassion and innovation already thriving within these organizations. Together, I’m confident we will elevate our programs, expand access to leading-edge therapies and continue delivering the kind of care that changes lives.”
