Job Summary

This role represents a unique opportunity for a visionary OB/GYN physician leader to shape the future of women’s health services across Michigan while maintaining an active clinical practice.

Based at Beacon Kalamazoo, a 268-bed Level II Trauma Center, the Medical Director of OB/GYN Services will provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for the Women’s Health Service Line, guiding the development, integration, and growth of OB/GYN practices throughout the region.

Working in close partnership with executive leadership, physicians, and operational teams, the Medical Director will establish a unified vision for women’s health services while promoting high-quality, patient-centered, and sustainable care. The role is responsible for aligning clinical protocols, quality standards, and operational best practices across all locations to ensure consistency in care delivery and exceptional patient outcomes.

The Medical Director will lead initiatives focused on service line growth, practice integration, and access expansion while identifying opportunities to enhance the patient experience and strengthen the market presence of women’s health services. This includes developing innovative care models, optimizing practice operations, improving provider productivity, and supporting integrated physician, Advanced Practice Provider (APP), and Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) care teams.

As the physician leader for women’s health services, the Medical Director will foster a culture of collaboration, engagement, accountability, and professional development. Responsibilities include supporting physician recruitment, onboarding, retention, mentorship, leadership development, and succession planning while strengthening relationships among multidisciplinary teams, including OB/GYN physicians, Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists, Gynecologic Oncology specialists, APPs, and Certified Nurse Midwives.

A strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement is essential. The Medical Director will champion initiatives that improve maternal outcomes, patient safety, patient satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and evidence-based care. The role will also cultivate partnerships with community organizations, referral networks, and academic institutions, including the Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program and the University of Notre Dame, to support education, research, and expanded access to care.

Through visionary leadership and active physician engagement, the Medical Director will play a critical role in advancing women’s health services across Michigan and creating a sustainable framework for future growth and clinical excellence.

Must Have Qualifications for OBGYN

  • MD or DO, Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology
  • Active (or eligible) Michigan medical license
  • Minimum 5+ years of clinical experience with demonstrated leadership responsibilities
  • Experience working in integrated or multi-site health systems
  • Strategic thinking and service line development
  • Physician engagement and influence without authority
  • Must have experience working with Residents and Medical Schools
  • Change management and integration leadership
  • Strong communication and collaborative leadership style
  • Familiarity with physician/APP/CNM team-based models

Work Schedule

  • Will do both gynecologic and OB call. Will not be responsible for deliveries if this is not desired.
  • Clinical responsibilities included
  • Flexible practice model combining clinic and laborist coverage (approx. 6 shifts/year)
  • Office days are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Will oversee office and surgery with laborist support.
  • The exact administrative-to-clinical time allocation will be developed based on the candidate’s experience and organizational needs.

  • Advance quality and patient experience initiatives focused on maternal outcomes, patient safety, evidence-based care, and patient satisfaction.
  • Support academic, teaching, and research opportunities through collaboration with WMed.
  • Working Medical Director role that combines meaningful leadership responsibilities with an active clinical practice.
  • Flexible administrative and clinical time allocation based on leadership experience, clinical interests, and organizational needs.
  • Laborist support available, allowing physicians to focus on office-based gynecology, surgery, and leadership responsibilities.
  • Shared call schedule of no greater than 1:4 with 24-hour call shifts.
  • Monday-Friday office schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
