A vision condition in which objects far away are seen more clearly than objects that are close.
Farsightedness, also called hyperopia, is a common vision condition. It's usually present at birth and runs in families.
People with hyperopia must squint to see nearby objects. Reading, writing, computer work or drawing for long periods of time may cause eye pain and headache.
Treatment options include eyeglasses, contact lenses and surgery such as laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis, also called LASIK.
