ft-system-newsElkhart General Hospital celebrated a “skybreaking” in early December, an event that kicked off the next stage of the Surgical Suite expansion. When it’s completed in 2015, the 160,000-square-foot project will feature 43 private, inpatient rooms for post-surgical patient recovery, 10 state-of-the-art surgical and 3 endoscopy suites, and the addition of hybrid surgery capability, all equipped with the newest technology to provide outstanding patient care.

Work continues on Elkhart General Home Care, a state-of-the-art facility and a first of its kind in Elkhart County to provide all home care services from one location. A majority of construction will be completed by the end of January. Services will include a Medicare and Medicaid-licensed home health agency, a home medical equipment retail store, an infusion and compounding pharmacy including a retail store, and a licensed personal services agency – Partners in Personal Care. The relocation process will start in February and be completed in March. Grand opening events will be planned for the spring.

Memorial Leighton Trauma Center was re-verified for the third time as an Adult Level II Trauma Center. This achievement recognizes the trauma center’s dedication to providing outstanding care for injured patients. It is the only verified trauma center in North Central Indiana.

Beacon Medical Group Vascular & Interventional Radiology relocated this month to 621 Memorial Drive, Suite 312, inside Centennial Medical Square, connected to Memorial Hospital. Valet parking continues to be offered to patients needing assistance at the main entrance of the hospital, or people can park inside Lafayette Parking Garage. The space is larger and more welcoming. Beacon Health System’s Memorial Regional Cancer Center (MRCC) moved its primary location to 301 E. Day Road in Mishawaka this month. The existing location within Memorial remains fully operational. MRCC hopes the move will improve convenience of lifesaving services. It also features a more spacious infusion area and easier access for Mishawaka and Granger patients. Med-Point Urgent Care Center is now located inside Beacon Medical Group Elkhart East (formerly Family Practice Associates) at 3301 CR 6 East.
