6 Tips to Keep Your PC Running Smoothly

  1. ftt-6-thingsBeware of odd emails. A popular phishing technique includes links to websites that request information or passwords. Legitimate companies will never ask you for passwords or other personal information through email.
  2. Limit web browsing to trusted websites. Avoid sites that let you download copyrighted content or other illegal communities. Questionable, non-business related sites and others promising “free” files and downloads have a much greater chance of causing system infections.
  3. Beware of misleading pop-ups. Some pop-ups try to trick you into thinking their antivirus software has found an infection. No legitimate antivirus company will advertise its product this way; avoid clicking on any of these pop-ups.
  4. Only open trusted files\attachments. A virus or worm can only harm your computer if you run the program that it is associated with. Simply downloading a file does not put you in any real danger.
  5. Avoid installing free toolbars. Adding a search toolbar will slow down the computer, and may cause issues as some toolbars may contain pop-up blockers that may affect Beacon web applications.
  6. Minimize the number of open browser tabs. Too many tabs open may slow down the computer.
