Emergency Department Dazzles Student

Screen Shot 2015-05-26 at 3.45.02 PMAssociates in the Emergency Department at Elkhart General Hospital recently received fan mail from a young woman who completed a rotation on the unit as a student intern. Jimtown High School senior Darian Hahn’s note to Nursing Education Manager Reneé Pugh captured her appreciation and enthusiasm for the opportunity:

“I just needed to tell you that the ER staff was my absolute favorite! I’m not sure if ER is for me personally (still wanna be an OB/GYN more than anything, lol), but the staff in the ER made me feel so welcomed, EVERY SINGLE PERSON THERE! … Even with all the chaos that happens in the ER I always got every question I asked answered and I learned so much. I don’t know what you can do but if there’s any way you could tell them how amazing they are and how much I adore all of them that would be awesome. Because of them I’ve decided my backup plan — if I decide being a doctor isn’t for me — is that I’ll be an ER nurse. Also, let me know if I could do anything to help with telling them how awesome they are.”

And the feeling is mutual! “It is so heartwarming to know that in such a short time period you can impact someone’s life so profoundly,” says Susan L. Miller, Director of the Emergency Department. She feels certain that Darian’s motivation and energy will allow her to excel at whatever specialty she chooses.

“Of course, we would love for her to be an ER doc!” Susan adds. “The ER team is energetic and motivated, just like Darian. Plus, you have to make quick, positive connections with people in order to be successful in the ER and Darian experienced that with the staff.”

The ER team wishes Darian all the best in her future career endeavors.
