Duck adoptions raise thousands in donations

Balfour Beatty Construction wanted to give back to Memorial Children’s Hospital.

And give back is precisely what the general contractor has done.

The 2,500 yellow rubber ducks that raced down the East Race in August raised thousands of dollars for Memorial Children’s Hospital.

Balfour Beatty recently presented hospital leaders with a check for $22,000, the amount raised from duck donations in this first annual event near downtown South Bend.

Tim Conley, Children’s Hospital project manager, said the event would not have been possible without its community partners and subcontractors.

The new home of Memorial Children’s Hospital is expected to be completed in March.

“Together, they raised a lot of money, which makes a difference,” said Kellie Porter, vice president, Beacon Health Foundation. “And the more people we have invested in the Children’s Hospital, the healthier our community will be, and the more vibrant our community will be.”
