BMG nurse postpones May wedding because of COVID-19

Misty Harding, RN, Clinical Supervisor at Beacon Medical GroupSchwartz-Wiekamp office in Mishawaka, shares how her family’s life has changed due to COVID-19.

“My daughter is a senior at Mishawaka High School. She is also a tennis player for MHS. Due to the coronavirus, her senior year was cut short like all of the other seniors across America. That means no senior night for tennis, no prom, no more lunches with her friends for the last time before they all go off to different colleges, and possibly no commencement. Her 18th birthday also fell during this stay-at-home order. A birthday she was not able to share with her friends and extended family. These are a few of the big milestones my teenager will not get to experience.

“Not only has my daughter been affected by COVID, but my fiancé and I have as well. Our wedding was scheduled to be May 22, 2020. Our bachelor and bachelorette parties were supposed to be in March and my bridal shower in April. All of those important days to us have been cancelled. At this point, we are unable to reschedule our wedding as we do not know when the coronavirus will be over or settled down. Even though these are big events for us to have to cancel, my heart breaks more for my daughter and the experiences she is missing out on.”

Remember when … ?
We want you to write about your life during Coronavirus. Reflect upon how your life has changed, how you have changed, how you are coping — so future generations understand what it was like to live through this pandemic.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. Write a few paragraphs, a longer essay, a poem. Your words and memories matter. Capturing it now is important.
Please send to Heidi Prescott at hprescott@beaconhealthsystem.org. We’ll share some of the stories we collect with our Beacon Health team and the community.
Every story matters. We look forward to hearing yours.
