Building the future of care and the team to deliver it

As Memorial Hospital’s new patient tower begins to open, it will bring expanded access to advanced care for our community. But the building itself is only part of the story.

Behind every patient room, every therapy session and every life-saving intervention are caregivers who make exceptional care possible. Memorial is continuing to grow its team of nurses, therapists, clinical specialists and support associates who will help shape the future of care in our region.

The new tower is a reflection of Beacon Health System’s long-term commitment to both patients and caregivers. Designed with input from frontline teams, the space was built around how care is actually delivered every day.

Patient rooms are larger, creating more space for patients, families and care teams. Every room includes in-room patient lifts to support safety and efficiency. Accessible from both the hallway and patient rooms, nurse server pass-through cabinets will make it easy to keep essential supplies nearby, helping caregivers respond quickly while reducing noise and disruptions. Unit layouts and finishes were selected with feedback from the people who will use them most.

For caregivers, those details matter.

“This tower was designed with the people providing care at the center of the conversation,” said Kate Wilhelm, MSN, RN, PCCN, CHCM, Executive Director of Adult Patient Services at Memorial. “When clinicians have the tools, space and support they need, they can focus on what matters most: caring for patients and families.”

The tower also strengthens Memorial’s ability to care for patients in key clinical areas including orthopedics, heart and vascular care, cancer services and adult intensive care, creating opportunities for healthcare professionals at every stage of their careers.

 More than a new building

While the tower represents a major investment in facilities and technology, Beacon’s greatest investment continues to be its people.

Across nursing, allied health and support services, there are opportunities for career growth, professional development and advancement.

For nurses, that includes a clinical ladder program that recognizes experience, expertise and professional growth. Associates can also take advantage of tuition reimbursement, continuing education opportunities and pathways to specialty certifications.

New graduates and early-career clinicians have access to mentorship and training programs designed to help them build confidence and develop their skills in a supportive environment.
