Chemotherapy

At Beacon Health System, when you’re diagnosed with cancer, we work together to get you the treatment you need – quickly. Our team of cancer specialists collaborates to design a care plan tailored specifically to you. We deliver leading-edge chemotherapy treatments in convenient, nurturing environments.

What is Chemotherapy?

Chemotherapy is a way to treat cancer using drugs that destroy cancer cells and keep them from growing and spreading. The drugs can be given in several different ways. Most commonly, chemotherapy is given through pills or is injected directly into your vein (infusion therapy).

With chemotherapy, the drugs travel through your entire body. This makes it effective in treating cancers that have spread. Chemotherapy can be used alone or in combination with radiation and surgery.

Chemotherapy Infusion Centers

If your treatment plan includes IV chemotherapy (injected directly in your vein), you can come to a Beacon infusion center for expert care. Our highly trained team administers treatment in a warm, comforting atmosphere.

Depending on your specific treatment plan, your session will usually last between one and several hours. Most chemotherapy infusions are given at one- to four-week intervals.
