Frequently Asked Questions

What is Elkhart Health & Aquatics?

Elkhart Health & Aquatics is a collaboration between Beacon Health System, Elkhart Community Schools and the Community Foundation of Elkhart County. Envisioned by community leaders and visionary donors as a place of health, wellness and growth for Elkhart County, the facility includes northern Indiana’s largest aquatics center, indoor and outdoor common spaces and the region’s third Beacon Health & Fitness.

What is the aquatics facility all about?

The aquatics facility includes a 66-meter competition pool with diving well. It is the fifth swimming pool of its size for public use in the nation. It includes two moveable bulkheads, which allows for multiple events to occur at the same time. The aquatics facility also includes locker rooms and spectator seating for up to 1,200 people.

What if I don’t want to use any other Beacon Health & Fitness feature besides the pool?

No problem! We have a pool-only membership available in Elkhart.

  • Youth: $20/month
  • Individual: $39/month
  • Couple: $59/month
  • Family: $79/month

Each pool membership requires a $49 enrollment fee.

Will the pool be available for community members without a membership?

There are community open swim days and times available.

What is the Beacon Best Medicine program? Is Parkinson’s CLIMB offered at the Elkhart facility?

Beacon Best Medicine is clinical programming for individuals with specific medical conditions or injuries. Participants complete 6-week sessions of specially designed exercise classes and meet with our Fitness staff to track physical improvement. Physician referrals are required to participate in Beacon Best Medicine.

All of the Beacon Health & Fitness Best Medicine classes are offered at the Elkhart facility, including Parkinson’s CLIMB.

What types of common spaces are available?

A number of common spaces are available, including a gymnasium, a large outdoor terrace, library, and multiple, flexible meeting spaces.

Who owns Elkhart Health & Aquatics?

Elkhart Health & Aquatics is 60 percent owned by the Community Foundation of Elkhart County, and 40 percent owned by Beacon Health System. The facility is operated and managed by Beacon.

The Elkhart schools reserved approximately $12MM to rebuild their 40+ year old pools from a prior referendum. Their $6MM contribution reduced their capital expenditure for new pools which were anticipated to cost $12-15MM. No tax increases are being implemented as a result of the Aquatics Center or the surrounding River District.
