Mini-Medical University for Teens
About the Program
Memorial Hospital’s Volunteer Services Department offers a one-of-a-kind learning experience for high-school-aged students. Admitted students become immersed in various healthcare professions, experiencing the vibrancy of the hospital through presentations and activities alongside some of Beacon’s best and brightest! In past years, ‘curriculum’ has included lectures from clinicians in specialty areas, labs and exposure to clinical units and services within Memorial.
Mini-Medical University for Teens (MMU) is a full-day, week-long experience offered for three sessions in June and July. The programming is geared toward high school students ages 15 to 18 who will be rising juniors and seniors in summer 2024.
Students who successfully complete MMU become eligible to interview for a volunteer position at the hospital. Due to privacy laws and other requirements, only high school students ages 15 to 17 who successfully complete MMU are eligible to volunteer in specific service areas while in high school.
Summer 2023 Recap
What fun we had with the 35 students who joined us throughout the summer! Thank you to the many Beacon associates who made the awesome programming possible and to the families who participated this year. With their fresh feedback in mind, we already begin to look toward Summer 2024 for another great year.
