Trauma Education

Memorial Hospital offers education to physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and the public in various topics of trauma care.

Community Injury Prevention and Outreach Programs for youth, seniors, churches, retirement facilities, schools, and community organizations:

  • “Trauma Nurses Talk Tough”- 1 hour power point presentation through the eyes of a trauma nurse detailing actual accidents and injuries aimed and getting kids to make the right choices about driving, weapons and other dangers.
  • “Let’s get High and Die”- 1 hour power point presentation on the newest illegal drugs in the area and the affects those drugs are having on kids, families and neighborhoods.
  • Stop the Bleed- 1 hour presentation on recognizing uncontrolled bleeding, hands on practice with holding pressure on the wound, packing the wound and applying a tourniquet. Also geared to be a train the trainer class
    • This class stems from the Sandy Hook school shooting debriefing where it was concluded that there would have been more survivors had there been “Stop the Bleed” Kits at the school with people who were trained in stopping bleeding.
    • Unfortunately, in the world we live in today there are attacks happening on an almost daily basis. This training  limits the number of innocent  victims that have been dying  from uncontrolled bleeding
    • There are also many people on blood thinners where even one small injury can cause uncontrolled bleeding
  • We have a retired South Bend Police Officer on our team that focuses on the prevention of violence from weapons and domestic violence.
  • We have several team members that do injury prevention on falls, bicycle and helmet safety, car seat safety, ATV/boat/water safety and shaken baby syndrome.
  • “SLIP”-Senior Lifestyles and Injury Prevention- This is a comprehensive injury prevention program for seniors with topics on home safety, fall prevention, medication safety, motor vehicle safety and pedestrian safety.

If there are needs you have that aren’t listed we would be happy to customize programs to meet your needs. Stacie Bobeck is the trauma educator and outreach coordinator and can be reached for information on a variety of trauma topics.
