Advanced Practice Clinician Education
Beacon Health System is committed to providing high-quality clinical education experiences for Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) students while developing the next generation of clinicians who will serve our communities.
APC student rotations may include learners enrolled in programs to become Physician Assistants (PAs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs), and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs).
Approved APC students receive appropriate access to Beacon clinical systems and documentation tools based on their clinical experience needs.
Interested in completing an APC clinical rotation at Beacon?
All requests for APC student clinical rotations within Beacon Health System must be submitted through the centralized APC clinical education process.
Applications may be completed by the student or an authorized representative from the student’s academic program.
Apply For An APC Clinical Rotation
Applicants will be asked to provide information regarding their academic program, anticipated graduation date, future area of practice interest (if known), requested rotation specialties, rotation dates and hours, preferred location, and any preferred preceptor(s). The application also requests a brief personal statement.
Preceptor and location requests may be submitted but cannot be guaranteed.
Please do not contact individual Beacon clinicians directly to arrange an APC student rotation. All APC student placement requests should be submitted through the centralized application process.
Application deadlines
Applications are reviewed three times each year with the following deadlines enforced:
- September 1 – for rotations beginning January 1 through April 30
- February 1 – for rotations beginning May 1 through July 31
- April 1 – for rotations beginning August 1 through December 31
Students are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Incomplete applications, missing required documentation, or inaccurate rotation information will not be considered for placement.
Required application materials
Applicants who are offered a placement should be prepared to provide:
- Letter of good standing from their educational institution
- Current CV or resume
- Proof of immunizations:
- MMR
- Varicella
- Tdap
- Hepatitis B
- Current Influenza Vaccination
- Tuberculosis test
- A QuantiFERON Gold serology test (QFT) is the preferred method of screening.
- A tuberculin skin test (TST) results will be accepted for:
- 2 step TST process (2 separate tests) completed within 12 months. First TST completed within 12 months of observation experience and second TST completed within 30 days of observation experience. Tests must be more than one week apart.
Note: An application submission does not guarantee placement.
How placement decisions are made
All APC student rotation requests are reviewed by Beacon Medical Group.
Placement decisions are based on a combination of:
- Beacon Health System workforce and recruitment needs
- Availability of appropriate preceptors and clinical experiences
- Existing academic partnerships
- Learner qualifications and program requirements
- Alignment between the requested rotation and organizational priorities
Preference may be given to Beacon associates enrolled in APC programs, students attending strategic partner institutions, learners pursuing specialties with significant workforce needs, and candidates who demonstrate strong potential for future employment with Beacon.
What happens after I apply?
Completed applications are reviewed by Beacon Medical Group.
If a potential clinical placement is identified, the APC education team will work with the student, academic institution, preceptor, and clinical department to coordinate requirements, scheduling, onboarding, and appropriate system access before the rotation begins. Additional documents will be required, such as release form, code of conduct, and non-disclosure agreements. Receiving these documents in a timely manner is essential to prevent delays in start dates or computer access.
Students attending universities that do not currently have a Beacon-approved affiliation agreement may still be considered for placement. However, an appropriate affiliation agreement must be completed between Beacon Health System and the academic institution before the rotation may begin.
