Review and Update on the IUSM-SB Scholarly Concentration Program

Presented By: Mark Fox, MD – Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at the IU School of Medicine, Regional Campus Dean for the IU School of Medicine – South Bend, and interim Dean for the IU School of Medicine – Northwest.

  • Appreciate the scope of research and scholarly activities associated with the Scholarly Concentration

Mark D. Fox is a Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at the IU School of Medicine and serves as the Regional Campus Dean for the IU School of Medicine – South Bend and interim Dean for the IU School of Medicine – Northwest. A physician, ethicist and public health professional, Dr. Fox completed an uncommon MD/PhD (PhD in Religion, Ethics, and Society) at Vanderbilt University. He then completed his residency in Medicine/Pediatrics at the University of Rochester (NY), where he did a fellowship in Preventive Cardiology and Cardiovascular Epidemiology. He completed his Master’s in Public Health during his fellowship.

Prior to joining IU, Fox held the Julian Rothbaum Chair in Community Health Research at the University of Oklahoma School of Community Medicine in Tulsa, where he was the Associate Dean for Community Health and Research Development. His clinical work has focused on care for vulnerable and underserved populations, from a cardiovascular risk reduction program for uninsured adults to a street outreach clinic for homeless youth.

Along with Rev. Joseph J. Kotva Jr., PhD, Fox is co-director for the South Bend campus’ Scholarly Concentration in Ethics, Equity, and Justice.
