Elkhart General Childbirth Classes

At Elkhart General Hospital, maternity care doesn’t start with the delivery of your baby. We offer services for expectant families months before they actually enter the hospital. Expectant parents may attend our special classes and receive instruction on such topics as breastfeeding, the labor/delivery process, infant CPR, and sibling preparation, as well as complete follow-up care for mother and baby. Infant Safety and CPR

Learn hands-on training to provide emergency care for your infant and at-home techniques.

Newborn Care

Understand baby cues and learn how to comfort and soothe a new baby during the first weeks at home. You’ll also learn what normal appearances look like for a newborn.

Prep for Childbirth

Get to know every aspect of the labor and delivery process, including signs and symptoms of labor, breathing techniques, epidural anesthesia and emergency and scheduled cesarean section. This class also offers a tour of the center.

Labor Express Childbirth

This class is a fast-paced version of Prep for Childbirth, providing an overview of all aspects of the labor and delivery process. This class also offers a tour of the center.

Super Saturday Childbirth

Get to know every aspect of the labor and delivery process in one full day. Topics include the signs and symptoms of labor, breathing techniques, epidural anesthesia and emergency and scheduled cesarean section.

Refresher Childbirth

Even if you have had a baby before, sometimes you need a little refresher of the labor and delivery process.

Breastfeeding and Returning to Work or School

Learn techniques to help maintain lactation while you are away from baby. Techniques include ways to express breast milk, proper storage of breast milk and introduction of bottles. We encourage you to bring your baby with you to class.

Sibling Class

Children ages 3 to 7 will learn what it’s like to be a big brother or sister. They will learn how to safely hold, touch and diaper a baby as well as learn how home life will change.

Center for Women and Children Tour

Learn what your childbirth experience will be like with a tour of Elkhart General Maternity Center. You’ll get a glimpse of your private suite and all the amenities that come with the labor and delivery of your little one.

Breastfeeding for Success

Breastfeeding is one of the best things you can do for your baby. Learn the keys to breastfeeding success, such as tips for latching, expressing and pumping breast milk, proper storage of breast milk and much more. In addition, your partner with learn way to help support you during breastfeeding.

Teenage Breastfeeding

As a young mother, it be can be challenging to breastfeed. Learn the importance of breastfeeding for you and your baby, how your body will change, and diet recommendations to support healthy breastfeeding.

Teenage Preparation for Childbirth

This class is designed for the teenage expectant mother and teaches every aspect of the labor and delivery process, including signs and symptoms of labor, breathing techniques, epidural anesthesia and emergency and scheduled cesarean section. We encourage you to bring your partner and other family support.
